If I entered a keyword in the wrong place in my keyword hierarchy, I can DRAG AND DROP the keyword into its correct locaton! Woo hoo! I can't do that in Adobe Pagemaker (my typesetting tool of choice for printed matter, which has excellent indexing features)!
For example:
After I did all my indexing, I found a few instances of things like this:
USB
USB Bytes / Second
USB connect tone
USB data rate
USB Packets
At a glance this is a clear signal that subentries of a single USB entry are called for. All it takes to make this adjustment is dragging the to-be-subentries to the new parent keyword, and voila! So I dragged and dropped the lower 4 into the first USB entry and then renamed them and came out with this structure instead, which I like much better!
USB
bytes / second
connect tone
data rate
packets
How long did it take? About 30 seconds.
By the time I got my index finished, I had used this feature many times to do minor reworks of hierarchical structure among keywords.
